Miracles in Action and GRACE

Overview:

Combating human trafficking through prevention and education

Mission:

Since 2004, the Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva has been at the forefront of the fight against human trafficking, awarding grants totaling $43,500, and gaining international recognition for our accomplishments.

Our current focus is on prevention, focusing work in Guatemala as it is the home (source) country of many of Florida’s victims. By providing projects for education and self-sufficiency, we believe these women and girls will find alternatives to support themselves to stay in their native land.

Zonta Partnership:

Funded projects include distributing CDs of “Lucia's Letter," a recording of two survivors of human trafficking and their harrowing experiences being trafficked from Guatemala to Lee County; a sewing machine micro-credit program; supplying books for rural schools, and funding training programs for rural teachers.

In addition, our club is coordinating the assembly of over 5,000 birthing kits for distribution to rural villagers. Birthing kits help reduce maternal and infant mortality in rural Guatemalan families
