Just as Santa s elves have gone on a well-deserved holiday, members of the Zonta Club of Sanibel Captiva are going to work to deliver the 6th Annual Peek at the Unique: A Tour of Island Homes on Saturday March 10th.

Behind the scenes, work has been in progress for a few months. Ginger Parker and Susan Dunn, our House-Hunters extraordinaire, are looking hither and yon for just the right collection of homes. "It s not about the biggest house on the islands or the most expensive," says Dunn. "It s about houses that will give the viewer a special experience. Each year we put together a combination of houses that are unusual in different ways. Ginger (Parker) brings the eye of the builder and as a real estate agent, I bring the perspective of the buyers and sellers." More about the houses in coming weeks from the PR wizards Ellen Strobel, Orlene Shimberg and Carolyn Swiney.

Meanwhile, over at Island Nutrition, Zontian Carol Simontacchi has been putting together the most unique collection of items for the Peek raffle, 6 Chances at the Unique. Started just three years ago when Dee Congress stepped forward and offered a beautiful pendant, it has been a successful addition to the Peek day, and this selection of prizes is sure to carry on that tradition. Ticket sales organized by Janice Caron and Louise Johnson, will begin next week at Island Nutrition on Sanibel and at Island Framing on McGregor and from your neighborhood Zontian. The Sponsor team leaders Cyndy Lorry and Wendy West are working into the wee hours preparing
their team to blitz island businesses for sponsorships for the Peek Program. And then there s the Ticket team led by Jan Alden who is busily preparing to send out early reservation letters to Past "Peekers." Tickets will go on sale to the public in mid-February when the Ticket Line opens (and Jan stops sleeping). Our Lead Chef, Annie Nachtsheim who will be feeding our hungry Peekers is out tracking down donations from local food related businesses. (Can t you just see her? "Please, sir,
can I have some more?") Graphics queen Caroline Hoisington is hard at work squeezing the phenomenal number of words we need to describe all we do onto tickets and into the program. And there s more--so much more.

Finally, on March 10, each of our close to 70 members will be assigned to her post (by Volunteer Coordinator, aka Cat Herder, Barbara Cooley), and the fun will begin. When asked why we are willing to give up our personal lives for two months for the Peek, a Zontian said, "When you see how hard the women and girls are trying to change their lives around--when you see what they are fighting--you just want to do whatever you can to help. This is what I can do for them. For the women fighting addiction at SWFAS - for the foster kids in GMIOP and for the trafficking victims who are fighting to regain their lives.... how can I not give of my talents?"

Yup, it s all about our partners. All of the money raised after expenses-and last year it was over $40,000-goes directly to our partners. Questions or comments about the Peek, email ZontaPeek@comcast.net. The Zonta Club of Sanibel Captiva is a member of Zonta International, a global service organization whose express purpose is to advance the status of women and girls worldwide. Locally, Zonta is an active club providing hands on assistance, advocacy, and funds to strengthen women s lives on the island, in Lee County, and around the world.
